Communication Policy

Introduction

At Rosedale State School, we believe that strong, respectful partnerships between parents, caregivers, students, and staff are essential to student success. Effective communication built on openness and trust enables everyone involved to make informed, thoughtful decisions that positively support each child’s learning and wellbeing.

We are committed to maintaining open, inclusive, and respectful communication with our whole school community, working together to foster a safe and supportive learning environment for all.

Purpose of the Communication Policy

This Communication Policy aims to:

  • Establish clear expectations for how the school communicates with parents and caregivers to support student learning and wellbeing.

  • Provide guidance to parents/caregivers on how to engage in open and respectful communication with teachers and school staff.

  • Support parents in discussing learning with their children and engaging meaningfully with the school.

  • Strengthen relationships between families, students, and staff to build a positive, inclusive school community.

  • Keep families and the wider community informed about school events, achievements, activities, and opportunities.

Communication Methods for Parents and Caregivers

We use a variety of channels to share important information with our school community:

1. School Website

https://rosedaless.eq.edu.au
Our website provides comprehensive information about enrolments, curriculum, extracurricular activities, facilities, school calendars, newsletters, policies, and community resources.

2. Facebook Page

https://www.facebook.com/rosedaless
Used for timely updates on school events, activities, and celebrations. Posts are managed by school administration and adhere to our social media guidelines.

3. Email

  • Email is the primary method of communication for sharing general school information, class updates, reports, and invoices.

  • Teachers may also use email to communicate classroom news or student progress.

  • All school emails will be responded to within three (3) school days.

  • For classroom-related concerns, your first point of contact should be your child’s class or specialist teacher.

4. Phone (Call/SMS)

  • For urgent matters, absences, changes to routine, or forgotten items, please contact the school office on 07 4156 5777.

  • Office hours are 8:00am–3:30pm. Outside these hours, messages can be left on voicemail and will be checked during business hours.

5. School Newsletter

Our newsletter is published twice per term and includes updates on school news, student achievements, upcoming events, and community highlights.

Expectations of School Staff

Rosedale staff are committed to proactive, timely, and respectful communication. Staff will:

  • Contact parents/caregivers at the beginning of each term or unit to outline curriculum content, expectations, and assessment.

  • Communicate promptly regarding any concerns about a student’s behaviour, achievement, or effort.

  • Respond to emails within three (3) school days.

  • Acknowledge receipt of more complex inquiries and provide a timeframe for a detailed response.

Expectations of Parents and Caregivers

To ensure clear and efficient communication, we ask that parents and caregivers:

  • Keep contact information (phone and email) up to date with the school.

  • Report student absences promptly, including the student’s name, class, reason for absence, and expected return date, via text response or by calling 07 4156 5777.

  • Use email for non-urgent communication, understanding that teachers are unavailable to respond during teaching or supervision times.

  • Respect the response timeframe of up to three school days for email replies.

Social Media Use

We welcome respectful engagement on our school’s social media platforms. To ensure a positive online environment, we ask that community members do not post content that:

  • Includes images or information about students without appropriate consent.

  • Is racist, defamatory, abusive, threatening, or discriminatory.

  • Humiliates or vilifies individuals or groups based on religion, gender, race, or sexuality.

  • Infringes upon copyright or other intellectual property rights.

For more information about communication protocols or to discuss any concerns, please contact the school administration. Together, we can continue building a connected, informed, and supportive school community.
