Organisation of Classes

At Rosedale State School, our vision is that every student in given the opportunity to grow and succeed at school.  Our educators aim to cater to the diverse needs of all students to ensure that they are able to reach their potential.  While this may mean extended learning for some and support in small groups or 1:1, for others, the goal is that every student has the chance to learn in an engaging and meaningful environment.

The majority of our learners will attend our mainstram classes however, we offer both extended learning and smaller, supported learning classes to suit the needs of individuals.

Extension learning is for students who are self-motivated high achieving learners who enjoy being challenged in their learning.  Besides covering the essential content, for students in these classes, learning can be extended in the breadth and depth of subject matter and students are enabled to work independently through tasks.

Assisted learning is for those students who experience some difficulty with their learning.  These students, whilst learning alongside their peers, will undertake a modified curriculum with the focus of developing skills and achieving a pass in every subject while building their confidence and ability as a learner.

Class size

The state staffing model allows for class sizes of 28 students in years 7-10 and 25 students in years 11 & 12.  At Rosedale, there is a policy to adjust class size to meet the different needs of subjects and the ability level of students where possible.  Therefore:

  • Extension and mainstream classes, due to demand and ability level, contain a maximum of 28 students.
  • Supported classes are targeted at 16 students.
  • Practical classes are targeted at 24 students in the Middle School and 18 students in the senior school.
