Principal’s Report – P&C Meeting
Date: 14 May 2025
Welcome to this term’s Principal’s Report. We're well into a productive and exciting term across our school community, and I’d like to share key updates in our priority areas and upcoming opportunities.
Advancing Our AIP Goals
Inclusive Education
We're continuing our strong commitment to inclusive practices:
Staff have been engaging in professional development focused on adjustments and differentiation, including ongoing learning around PLR and ICP processes.
NCCD evidence collection is underway, with moderation set for Monday 26 May alongside like schools. This process ensures funding for teaching aides, HOSES, and GOs for the school each year.
All ICPs (Individual Curriculum Plans) will be endorsed by the end of Semester 1 for students in Prep to Year 10, using accurate data from diagnostic assessments.
We’ve welcomed input from specialist services such as speech language therapists and impairment-specific supports.
Our Indigenous Cluster work is going strong. Partnerships with River Connections, Brendan, Aunty Lola, Zita, Taurean and others are enriching curriculum and wellbeing initiatives. Special thanks to Jodi Hock for her leadership in strengthening these ties.
Curriculum Development
A range of exciting developments are in motion:
Planning has continued for the roll-out of Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum across all year levels.
Senior VET and General subjects have been updated to align with new syllabus requirements.
In collaboration with Stanthorpe SHS, we’re offering Certificate II in Financial Literacy and Certificate II in ICT—free of charge—for students needing extra QCE points.
SET Planning sessions begin this week for Year 10 students and will run every Friday in Session 3.
Our AIR program (Academic Intervention and Readiness) now supports at-risk Year 11 and 12 students in key subjects every Friday afternoon.
A new wellbeing initiative sees a trained assistance dog and cat visiting our Year 9 English Intervention class to support student engagement and learning behaviours.
Collegial Engagement
Starting Week 5, staff will participate in classroom walk-throughs and "Watch Others Work" (WOW) activities to share best teaching practices and build consistency across classrooms. These also help us identify areas for continued improvement.
Reading Focus
Our work within the Reading Cluster continues to grow through staff collaboration and targeted PD.
Early data indicates student improvement through programs like Multilit.
We’ve expanded the Reading Team, now led by Tina Harrison (Primary), Latoya Larsen, and newly joined Jodi Black (Secondary).
Website Refresh
Our school website is undergoing updates to better reflect the positive things happening in our community:
Outdated content is being removed and replaced with fresh, relevant updates.
New photos will be uploaded before the end of term.
The P&C now has a dedicated page - to include information soon
Staffing Updates
HOD (Senior Schooling) interviews take place on 15 May. Marg Sypher remains Acting HOD for Semester 1.
A .4 FTE Administrative Officer position is open—applications close 25 May.
An IT Technician role will be advertised soon in partnership with Lowmead SS, Agnes Waters SS, and Miriam Vale SS.
Welcome to Melissa Normoyle, joining from Dalby SS. Her teaching expertise includes biology, agriculture, English, and inclusion.
Zac Edwards, our new school psychologist, will be with us three days a fortnight until at least the end of Term 3, replacing social worker Scott Gander.
Community Support Needed: Careers Day
📅 Date: Wednesday, 3 September 2025
🕛 Time: 12.00pm – 3.30pm
We’re hosting a Careers Expo and need your help! We’re looking for parents and community members to share insights into your careers and industries—whether you’re a plumber, electrician, mechanic, vet, office worker, or anything in between.
Sessions will run for just 10 minutes each. If you’re interested in helping our students explore their futures, please contact Narelle Hayne or Stacey Irving.
We’ll also hold a Senior Subject Information Session for Year 10 parents and others at 3.30pm on the same day.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We’re proud of the progress we’re making and excited about what lies ahead.
Warm regards,
[Principal's Name]
